Welcome to my One in Five fundraising page!
I love running. Well, not always in the moment! But I don't think I've ever finished a run and thought, "Gee, that was a waste of time and I regret it." Running reboots my systems and gives me fresh energy; my mind is free to churn away in the background while my heart pumps and my muscles fire, and the worries of the day just aren't a match for those powers combined. I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to run, and to experience such a simple "fix" for those days when things look down, or stress tries to trip me up.
I wish all problems could be so simply handled. Did you know that one in five adults suffer with some form of mental illness? That's 42.5 million people in the United States alone. Untreated mental illness is the most underrated health and social epidemic worldwide, and the numbers prove it. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among youth ages 10-24. Nearly 60% of mental illness goes untreated.
The solution? Early intervention; the best way to solve a problem is to prevent it from happening.
This June, I'll be participating at the One in Five Marathon Relay to benefit mental health initiatives.
You can help by supporting my fundraising efforts and make a tax-deductible donation. Join me on my journey to reaching my goal. Big or small, any amount helps in the fight for the one in five.
And I am always happy to have a running buddy! Join me sometime.
